Our 2024 Legislative Priorities

Disrupting Racial Disparities

Minnesota infamously leads the country in racial disparities, and it’s the responsibility of our lawmakers to ensure that those disparities aren’t deepened. We support adding Racial Equity Impact Notes to all legislation. Policy can be used as a transformational tool to invest in communities, protect our rights, and bring our voices and expertise into the halls of power. Interventions like the Racial Equity Impact Notes provide necessary analysis at the front end of any policy implementation, revealing possible unintended consequences that would worsen disparities, as well as highlighting the positive equity changes that can result from new legislation.

Safe Schools

Everybody - especially children - can be kept safe without punishment or violence. We support keeping prone restraints out of our children’s schools. We are deeply disappointed that our state senators, representatives, and governor listened to police lobbyists instead of community voices and overturned the ban on prone restraints in Minnesota schools this legislative session.

Housing Justice

We all need and deserve access to safe, affordable housing - and renters should never face retaliation when they come together to make their housing situations work better for them. We support legislation that would protect Tenants’ Right to Organize

A Safer, More Inclusive Minnesota

Our government has the power and the responsibility to ensure the safety and protection of all of our community members, of all immigration statuses. We believe in investing in the future of our communities - not in fear, division, and punishment. We support the North Star Act, which would prohibit state and local agencies from supplying data or enforcing detainers from federal immigration officials.

Protecting Bodily Autonomy

As states across the country criminalize abortion care and their LGBTQ+ neighbors, we support the expansion of Minnesota’s Equal Rights Amendment to include protections for pregnancy outcomes and gender identity.
